The curriculum addresses the core leadership and management best practices developed specifically for family businesses. They are not hypothetical but address real business issues drawn from real-life business challenges. Members of the LeadershipOne team are skilled at delivering training and have a proven track record of focused leadership development training with numerous family businesses.
The Family Business Leadership series curriculum and sessions will be presented by Hal Johnson and Yolanda Underwood. For the past decade they have been developing and refining the course material in family business settings. They bring highly researched yet practical material that “makes a difference” in its diligent application. They foster a high participation style of classroom learning and application. And yes, there is homework! But remember, knowledge is power. They help you get ready to create powerful results.
I. Understand Class Dynamics and Participant Needs
a. Conduct a one-on-one session with each participant and their designated sponsor/mentor.
b. Use the information gathered during the preliminary one-on-one session to establish individual needs/ strengths and organizational program success criteria.
c. Establish a program action plan based on individual success criteria that will serve as a development path for each participant.
II. Conduct Interactive Development Learning Sessions
a. Provide thought-provoking reading resources and pre-work exercises that will prepare the participants for each topic and ensure they are fully engaged in each learning session.
b. Provide a 3-4 hour learning session, co-facilitated by LeadershipOne professionals, on the critical topics that provide the foundation for becoming an effective leader.
c. Ensure that each learning session is complete with applicable examples, breakout sessions that will inspire discussion and exercises that will demonstrate practical application.
d. Provide a guest speaker who has real-life experience in each given topic, who will conduct a 1-2 hour presentation/discussion on the practical application of the material discussed.
e. Encourage each participant to review his/her action plan at the conclusion of each session and incorporate learning into practical business actions to review with their sponsor.
III. Mid-Program Review/Assessment
a. Conduct a mid-program review with all participants by asking each to complete an assessment on the program’s effectiveness.
b. Conduct a mid-program review with the group of participant sponsors to gauge how the participants have gained success and applied the use of program learning sessions/tools.
IV. Completion Of The Program
a. Provide each participant with a certification for program completion.
b. Conduct a completion commencement that will include the participation of all program members, as well as their sponsors.
c. Conduct a candidate exit interview assessment striving to gain first-hand feedback of program strengths and opportunities for future program enhancements.
